What is the Junior Composer Program?

The Endless Mountain Music Festival (EMMF) and the Science & Discovery Center (SDC) are collaborating to develop an educational program for students of all ages in school and college. The purpose of this pilot program is to combine STEM elements with music utilizing technology to guide students in scoring their own inspired compositions. STEM learning, along with computer programming, will play a crucial role in aiding students to score their own compositions.

STEM Students Opportunity:

Students have the opportunity to receive master class mentoring from eight Hollywood Composers who will be performing eight world premieres at the 2021 Endless Mountain Music Festival. EMMF and SDC are offering workshop help sessions beginning in March. Download the sign-up sheet.

  • March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 (Each Wednesday)

  • 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm

  • Where – Deane Center in Wellsboro

What does the Junior Composer Program entail?

Students will receive masterclasses from eight Hollywood composers who are scheduled to perform at the 2021 Endless Mountain Music Festival. Educators from the Science & Discovery Center will aid students in using technology to achieve their compositional goals. The eight composers will judge winning entries in each category: elementary school, middle school, high school, and college.

Winning composers, along with their families, will be invited to the 2021 Endless Mountain Music Festival concert on July 17, 2021, at The Corning Museum of Glass to meet and speak with the eight composers. Winning entries will be posted on both the EMMF and SDC websites. For full program details, please view the slides presented below.

Submission Requirements:

  • Submit a pre-recorded video inspired by suggested topics: Essential Workers, Immigrants, Civil Rights, Hollywood, or about the city where you live.

  • Include in the video: Your name, age, location, year in school, a brief bio that is concise and informational, and will explain the story behind your music.

  • Each video should be no longer than three minutes 30 seconds to four minutes maximum, including your scored composition.
