The contest was open to poets in grades five through 12 from schools in Tioga, Bradford, and Lycoming counties, and featured poems written about the 2007 festival theme, “Beethoven Meets the Blues.”
The student poets, their family members, and friends attended the reception along with Endless Mountain Music Festival board members and staff. On behalf of the Tioga County Commissioners, Commissioner Erick Coolidge congratulated the students and applauded their “creative spirit”.
Sixteen entries were received, and winners were named in two categories, grades five through eight and grades nine through 12. Liberty High School senior Nicholas Horner was named the grand prize winner, with his poem, “Crow.” His winning entry was set to music by Nashville composer Nomad Ovunc and performed at the festival concert on Saturday, August 11 at Mansfield University’s Straughn Auditorium.
