Our Educational Outreach Program

The educational outreach program of the Endless Mountain Music Festival is a specific part of our mission.

The mission of Endless Mountain Music Festival Educational Outreach Program is to supply our communities and schools opportunities for enhanced cultural learning for our adults and children.

Endless Mountain Music Festival Educational Outreach 2012

Objectives:

  • To further and enhance the enjoyment of music performed by the EMMF by developing ways to experience a deeper understanding of music and its' performance.
  • To engage the (musical) imagination and enthusiasm of diverse groups in the Twin Tiers.
  • To facilitate, for young musicians, the experience of playing with and learning from professional musicians.

High School Senior Project -
Seniors in 6 area schools will have the opportunity to work on education and community outreach programs built around the Endless Mountain Music Festival.

See It, Hear It, Play It -
Troy Youth Arts camp children will be introduced to the shapes and sounds of various instruments of the orchestra during a focus group at the June 2011 Arts Camp. In this program, children will learn to recognize instrument sounds and identify the sound in a larger body of work. Guest musicians will demonstrate the proper playing of the instruments and perform a musical piece for the Troy Youth Arts Camp.

Children's Health Fair -
In our year sixth year of participation, we will have a booth at the Tioga Health Fair showing the connection between music and good health.

Meet the Maestro -
Area schools and Senior Centers will be targeted in each area of performances. Schools and senior citizen centers will have the opportunity to invite Maestro Stephen Gunzenhauser to talk about social, cultural, and historical relationships to music. His dynamic presentations reveal music's ability to portray stories: of people, of places, and of life.

Summer Intern Program Recitals -
Up to 20 students will be coached by principal festival orchestra musicians for the duration of the festival. These interns will perform at brown-bag lunch recitals throughout the region free of charge.

Concerts for Kids -
The performances are designed to be engaging, exciting, and fun, with great music that's chosen for its appeal to young listeners. The conductor serves as narrator and guide.

Noon Notes -
A time to gather before each week of the Festival to present information about the music that will whet the musical appetite and heighten the concert goers experience.

Music Workshops -
Children and adults (Individuals) of all ages and levels of proficiency will have the opportunity to play for a professional musician and receive positive feedback about improving their playing skills.

  • Directors and beginning students will be encouraged to be a part of the Master Classes.
  • Master Classes will be open to anyone wishing to sit in and listen to the playing and advice from the musicians.
Our spotlight artists for the 2011 master classes are:
  • Artist-in-residence pianist Santiago Rodriguez, 1981 Van Cliburn Competitionsilver-medalist
  • Charles Rex, violinist for the New York Philharmonic

Pre-Concert Lectures -
These informative and evocative talks before festival orchestra concerts enhance the audience's listening experience and understanding of the music performed at the concert.

Open Rehearsals -
Jr.High/High school Orchestra and band students will be invited to select open rehearsals to enhance understanding of professional musicians' work, and for enjoyment, in a relaxed environment.
